TANKS slip on

A rare Canadian issue WW2 slip-on. Research indicates that the TANKS slip-on was issued for the CAC at Camp Borden.

More info please?

Hi Bill,

A very interesting slip-on. Any idea at what timeframe this was issued and to whom? Was this for specific personnel or all Armoured Corps ranks? The title being generically "Tanks" is odd since all the early CAC regiments I can think of were issued specific slip-ons:confused:

A neat item nonetheless.

Presumably worn by CAC personnel undergoing training before being attached to a specific regiment?

Nice slip on, don't think I've ever seen one before!

Cheers,

Adam

Provenance ....

This pattern of slip-on was supposedly worn by personnel of the Canadian Armoured Fighting Vehicle Training Centre (originally named the Canadian Tank School) at Camp Borden. This needs to be verified.
Most slip-ons were worn starting early in the war, circa 1940 until the coloured embroidered titles started to appear in 1942. Slip-ons were relegated to reserve army units in Canada when the Canadian Army (Active) adopted the coloured embroidered titles starting in 1942. A few regiments of the Canadian army had coloured embroidered titles from the start of hostilities. These included the PPCLI, the guards infantry regiments, and the Canadian Provost Corps.

The TANKS slip-on may have been replaced by the CAC slip-ons. The CAFVTC was incorporated into the Canadian Amoured Corps when the corps was organized, and this may have led to a change in the designation on the slip-on.
