Canadian Type 2 Para Wing?

I have stared at this for a few days now as well referenced Ken Joyce's excellent work on the Canadian Para.

This looks to be a type 2 American made wing.. Black Background.. White Mesh backing.... Somewhat egg shaped canopy. Shroud line numbers as well wing feather numbers. Maple leaf near flush with bottom of wing.

I have hypnotized myself looking at this wing and think I have it right. Can anyone confirm this? thanks Jack

The white backing mesh is consistent with Patch King reproductions.

That is an option I had not considered. Did patch king do Para wings? Thanks

The Type 2 Wing with white mesh backing is a mystery. Ken mentions in his book 'Into the Maelstrom' about the "white mesh cotton backing material typical of wool / felt badges made in the US during the war -but with no evidence of them being manufactured in the US!"

As '48th' highlighted these maybe Patchking made insignia for the collecting market as the white mesh backing is often seen on US manufactured insignia, but with no evidence of a wartime order it's probably a safe assumption to think these were made for collectors.

The mystery continues.

Attached is a front and back view of a Type 2 Wing.

The wing in question is a Patch King repro. Typical construction includes felt (not melton) base material and the loose weave cotton backing. They are listed in a Patch King catalogue.

Thanks everyone for their input. Into the duff box it shall go... Had not thought Patch King but as mentioned above it does have the main characteristics.

I've spoken to some of the worlds' top collectors and asked them if they asked certain simple questions of the maker/s. The common answer was 'I never thought to ask that.'
