A Question of Pay.......

Excuse my ignorance, but is there any difference in size between Army Pay Corps cap badge and shoulder titles as worn between 1898 and 1900 (KK1033) or are they both the same and interchangeable? I also understand that this pattern continued to be worn on the shoulder up until 1920.

Can anyone provide dimensions for me please?

Army Pay Corps badge

Hello,

In Ray Westlake's book "Collecting metal shoulder titles" he says that
APC (448) in cast brass, also served as the headdress badge between 1898
and 1900.

In the Reginald H.W. Cox book "Military Badges of the British Empire 1914-18"
APC (1775) is shown as a cap badge. (all badges in this book are printed
same size. (2" wide X 1 1/4" High.

The one in my collection is 2" wide X 1 1/4" High.
Hope this is of help to you.
Regards,
Michael

It's the same badge. MFP also wore S/t as cap until a bespoke badge was designed.

So to be clear, this large badge (2" wide X 1 1/4" High) was worn on the shoulder until 1920?

Just to be clear, this is important to help with dating back marks.

Thanks,

N

APC Shoulder Title

After 1920 the titles changed to the intertwined letters RAPC. So I think we can assume the APC title was worn up until 1920 and possibly a little longer until the change over was completed.
