WW1 Dispatch Rider Badges

I have finally found WW1 versions of the DR badges. The wheel and DR above and also a proficiency style DR within a wreath.

A big gap filled.

I can’t fault Marlows and Mailboxes for efficiency and not too pricey considering I had some imperial German field kit in the package.

I picked mine up today, I dread to think what Mailboxes would have charged due to size and weight.

Check with me next time, if I am going down I will pick yours up for you and post them on.

Is the wreath version really Great War please?

Any photos in wear?

MH331 07-08-20 06:15 PM

Grumpy no evidence other than style of manufacture so not definitive.

Just from what I have observed and period photographs in my own collection, I believe (no proof) that the DR in wreath is 'not' of WWI vintage but inter-war.

From my research/observations and photos I believed the DR/Wheel was the only one found in use during WWI.

Always happy to learn more or be proved wrong, just my opinion.

Cheerio,

Roy

Hi Roy,

Any pictures of DR in wreath? I have no strong feelings about period I just make comparisons with how other similar proficiency/trade badges of the Great War period are constructed and this example follows those traits. Even if post war it is unusual I think.

The DR over the wheel has been seen on here as WW!

The DR in wreath is occasionally found in that style but the one of Marks is definately an early version and I wouldnt be surprised if its another WW1 version.

Hi Guys,

No pics of the DR/wreath in use but here is a nice WWI period image of the DR/wheel.

Cheerio,

Roy
