Repair or not?

Good afternoon all,

I'm new to the forum but have been collecting British Army headdress badges for many years. Of late, I have been troubled by the possibility that not all of my badges might be all I thought they were! This was brought on by the breaking of the slider on my 5th VB Manchester badge which was attached with very old solder which has now decayed. I have had it for at least 40 years (I know that doesn't make it kosher!) but before I try to have it mended, I would appreciate some thoughts on it's authenticity. The slider says 'Gaunts' but I know from reading your comments that may not be genuine so 'Help'!

I am sorry to say the badge is a complete fake, designed to deceive.

Heres why.

1. Never made with a sliders, always on loops.

2. 5VB NEVER made in bi metal, always either White Metal or Blackened Brass.

3.. Wrong font

4. Known fraudulant copy.

So the answer is, dont bother repairing, just bin it.

Sorry to be so blunt but its worthless junk I am afraid.

regards

I would echo Simon’s comments, one for the bin I’m afraid.

A classic Martin Marsh catalogue fake, at most the badge is 50 years old.

Thank you both for your comments - straight from the shoulder. Appreciate your time and expertise - sadly! David.
