Leading Telegraphist George Gingell served from 1942 to 1945 in the world of Combined Operations Bombardment Units (COBU). While operating in support of the French in Corsica and Elba in 1944 in 2 COBU he was awarded the privilege of wear the badge of the 1ere Battaillon de Choc by the CO. Could one of our French members please show me the unit's badge, 1944 pattern? Many thanks. Mike

Hello,
please find here a link (in french) with the first badges of "Battaillon de choc" :

http://www.chemin-de-memoire-parachu...choc-1943-1963

The first ones have been made in Algeria, and after some have been cast in Corsica.

Many thanks for your help. A good-looking and very symbolic badge. I wonder if L/Tel George Gingell ever wore it on his uniform? The only image I have found of him is a wedding photograph and he is in full RN uniform for the occasion.

My pleasure.

The wiki page is also a good sum-up for badges worn by "Battalion de Choc"

Top right. Managed to retrieve his belongings and keep his story alive. Knew him all my life but knew nothing of his past.

restrike para regt cap badge and modern looking mess dress wing?

Phil2M 06-08-19 09:34 PM

What shows that its a restrike, slinky?

Slinky Cat 07-08-19 12:09 AM

the classic blob die flaw on the left wing ( as you look at it ) and the pointy crown
I’m not a strictly Para collector but I believe this is well known in collecting circles
