Sorting some drawers today, I came across this set of badges from the Irish Regiment of Canada. JR Gaunt / London maker marked. Cliff, your analysis?

Hi Bill, I don't have an example of this badge in my collection. I have had the opportunity to handle many examples at the Regimental Museum.

One thing that stood out in my mind with these badges was the odd look at the reverse of the crown (like the one you show).

I will have to review my notes when I get home, but if I recall correctly, the Officers version of this badge should be gilted. Is there any evidence of gilting?? As I say here, I will check my notes when I get home to be sure.

I see nothing about this badge that sets off any alarms for me. I would be very happy with it.

Thank you for sharing this one. I like it very much.

Hi Cliff and Bill, here is my set, marked J.R.Gaunt London on the crown. I've always wondered if, based on the suture line between the badge and the crown that with the change from the King's to Queen's crown they just made a separate die for the crown and used it on the earlier badge. Mine and Bill's appear to be one piece not separate crown and badge.

I can't remember if it's boobs in or out re the collars. What was the consensus?

Cheers,

Greg

Hey Greg, nice to see more of these for sure.

There is no consensus in regards to wearing the collars. If a member of the Regiment were to be caught wearing the collars facing inward, the RSM would certainly spit through their chest.

The Irish Regiment of Canada wear their collar badges facing out.
