Indian / Eastern badges for ID please

Hi All
Can anybody ID these? I have been asked to try and sell a small collection of badges for the owner and these were amongst them. Some are obvious as to what they are but are they worth anything? I anybody wants better photos I can take individual ones. Some seem to be Indian silver as they leave a black mark on paper.
The Cairo Civil Defence Force looks like it is missing a crown but is quite an interesting piece.
Thanks in advance, cheers,
Alex

Not a crown:

Just found a post showing a Suez Canal version of the badge.

Egyptian Civil Defence Force

I see in the last picture:
5th Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force), (post 1950)
63rd Palamcottah Light Infantry, (1903-1922)

And upper right is a badge (not a "normal" cap) 1st Punjab Regiment, (1922-1956)

Any ideas on the fusilier badge with the '4' on the ball?

4th Bombay Grenadiers (from 1922)
I guess until 1945 when they were re-designated as The Indian Grenadiers. and the "4" was replaced by the horse.

Are you still trying to name the others? I will suggest some (altough some of the texts are quite difficult to read from them):
Second set, first row from left to right:
  • 16th Light Cavalry (1922-1950)
  • ?
  • Pakistani, something cavalry, 4KRF???
  • Sikh related. what is the text?
  • Some princely state?

Second row
  • 15th Punjab Regiment (Pakistan, ~1947 - 1956)
  • ?
  • Khyber Rifles (A frontier corps of the northwest frontier, British and Pakistani) (I assume the text says it all but can't read it here).
  • 13th Frontier Force Rifles (1922-~1945)
  • 3rd Cavalry (Indian Army post 1950)

Thitd set (again, when not taken flat and with a quality that one can read the scrolls, it becomes difficult).
first row
  • 12th Cavalry (Frontier Force) (from 1922 to 1927, when re-designated Sam Browne's Cavalry (12th Frontier Force) (until 1940)
  • Pakistani frontier corps The North Waziristan .....
  • Badly readable, but probably 72nd Punjabis (1903-1922)
  • The United Provinces Horse (Southern Regiment) (a AFI unit) (collar badge?)
  • ? (and no, I can not read the text)

second row
  • Queen Victoria’s Own Corps of Guides (Frontier Force) (Lumsden’s) ( and other designations that are permutations of this), the cavalry part of it survived until this day in the Pakistani Army, but the badge was used until 1956.
  • ?
  • same ?
  • The Sikh Regiment (post 1950 badge as in the Indian Army)
  • The Kurram Militia (Pakistani frontier corps)

third row
  • when it says Gwalior, I assume Gwalior (pincely state) Artillery
  • The text should say Mekram Militia (Pakistani frontier corps)
  • 1st Duke of Yorks Own Skinner's Horse (1922, re-designated in 1927) Skinner's Horse (!st Duke of Yorks' Own) (badge until 1950)
  • ? (bad picture)
  • 7th Rajput Regiment (1922-1950

Thanks Henk, great info. I will try to find time to photograph them individually with a ruler for sizes.
Cheers,
Alex

Henk, I’ve seen Gwalior Artillery collar badge with 7 flame grenade. (Nearly bought it but the guy wanted way way too much) the one shown here has 9 flame grenade, Did they have Engineers? Regards, D.J.

Dating some of these badges is difficult and sometimes requires an educated guess. For example, the 72nd Punjabis looks a bit newish for a pre 1922 badge.
Additionally, collectors always use a date frame of 1922-1947, but most British era badges and insignia in both the new Indian and Pakistani armies, were worn for years afterward with no change, sometimes well into the 1950s, when they were still part of the Commonwealth.

That is why I have 1950 (for India) and 1956 (for Pakistan). I only show dates of events that influenced the usage of badges (and 1947 is not one with much influence in this respect), not how long badges were worn after that because of designing, producing, distributing, the new ones. Same btw for 1922, I assume many battalions will have worn their old badges for some time.

I have no idea, you might be correct.

Wikipedia mentions only Gwalior Lancers, Infantry and Transport Corps in it's 1903 list.
