Variation on RMP

Hi all,

Image of Royal Military Police cap badge with
voided "E11R". Backmarked Dowler.Birmingham

I have 8 or 9 other RMP cap badges but none of the others
are voided.

Is this an attribute to a specific maker or time period?

Maybe Chris march might have a idea

Thanks
Gordon

I have a Smith & Wright that is voided and a "bladed" A/A version also voided but my Dowler Birmingham is "solid"

Gordon,

Have a look in the book at page 539 re: 7th Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Gurkha Rifles and 10th Princess Mary’s Own Gurkha Rifles [Large]. It seems that the non-voided examples are the older of the two as amended by the Army Dress Committee on July 1966.

The same may be true of the RMP - the example that I show in page 289 is also non voided and I think from the late 1970's. However, I have no official info on when the RMP design may have been made.

While you are in the book you may like to date your badges using the info in Chapter 6: Manufacturer’s Markings.

Regards

Chris
