17th Gurkha Division printed formation signs - genuine or not?

Morning gents

Just back from a frosty boot fair where I picked up this pair of 17th Gurkha Division formation signs. It is likely that I will be swapping or selling them at some time in the future, but before that I would like to know if they are genuine or not?

Many thanks

Graham

Gurkha Division? Or is that Brigade?

Hi

I was going by posts #5 and #6 in this thread: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...urkha+division

Is that not right?

Possibly , it's just that although when in the Far East I came across Gurkha Brigades , and was at one time attached to HQ 48 Bde, I never encountered a Gurkha Div, not to say there wasn't one.

Hi

According to this site (top of page 7) 17th Gurkha Division existed in Malaya from 1952 to 1966ish, with their formation sign described pretty much as the pair I found today: crossed kukris in white on a very dark green rectactangle. So hopefully they are OK.

Hi Graham,

I believe you are correct, the 17th Gurkha Division was formed on 1st September 1952. The formation signs that you have are 17th Gurkha Division to the best of my knowledge. They look original to me with the diagonal weave in the material and the fact that the obverse image can be seen on the reverse, as is the case with most genuine printed formation badges.

Thank you Jack, much appreciated. I've compared the back with a printed 63rd Gurkha Brigade and I can see what you mean about the colour coming through. Made the trudge down and back worthwhile :) - and I got some cheap fruit and veg ;):D.

Best
