RAMC cloth beret badge

2 Attachment(s)
Gents, does anyone have any info on this particular incarnation of the RAMC beret badge?

It is a usual cloth beret badge size, but I'm not familiar with this design. Could it be Canadian?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Regards all

Not seen that one. I have these two apparently dating from 1991.

I have those too Tim. Left hand one I have as:- 3rd armoured ambulance, 1st Gulf 91.

The other I assume might be something to do with 16 Med Regt, part of 5th airborne Bde? Nothing definite though.

RAMC badge

Good day Bess,

Not Canadian. Both the pre-'68 RCAMC badge and the post-'68 Medical Branch hat badges have a wreath of Maple leaves around the Rod of Aesculapius. Your example looks definitely like Laurel leaves.

Many thanks Ian - makes sense.

My first thought was colonial, one the embroidery, two the shape of the maroon backing

Hi Bob, yes it does present as 'not British' in the strictest sense, which did make me initially think it might canadian. As above, I think that can be discounted. The badge however is as the British issue design.

Hmmmm . . .

To Note,
Only the RAMC uses the scroll "IN ARDUIS FIDELIS" as part of the design, so it can not be anything else but an RAMC badge. The question is whether it is official or not?

bess55 29-11-19 01:36 PM

True enough . . . If it were unofficial, could it be ACF? Are there even RAMC badged cadets? dont know. There were certainly RAOC army cadets in my day (1970s - 1980's.).

There you go, there is, thanks Mike. . . but could this beret badge be ACF ?

Those slides are not regulation and would have to be funded by the unit. They would get a free issue of metal badges through the system so unless they are copying whatever is worn by their local reserve RAMC Unit, it would seem unlikely. I can post it on one of the ACF facebook groups if you want.
