Cloth item for identification.

Picked these up this morning, the chevrons I assume overseas service stripes?
Can anyone help with the 'Shinto' crossed keys badge?
Will be moving these items on.
Thanks Tony.

BCOF Japan

25 Indep Inf Bde, part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (Japan). Prior to gaining Independent status 25 Inf Bde was 5 Inf Bde of 2 Inf Div - perpetuated by the crossed keys. A particularly attractive sign with good symbolism - in my opinion. Mike

Thanks for your help Mike, I thought it might be associated with Japan.
Cheers Tony.

The Military Heraldry Society is just about to republish the cloth badge identification pamphlets compiled by its founder Major John Waring.

Pamphlet 1 covers British cloth signs and is an invaluable pocket-sized reference that would have identified the badge shown easily - it's number 284 in the guide. Although the illustrations are black and white line drawings they are still useful. Sample attached.

The whole series of 12 pamphlets covers most countries of the world.

At the moment copies are only available to Society Members for £15 so if you'd like to buy a copy go to http://militaryheraldrysociety.com and join us online.

PM me with any questions.

I've tried, twice, to join the MHS recently - either I'm following a dead link or somebody recognises the name.............
