North Devon Hussars collar badges

The North Devon Hussars used a crown as a collar badge, a few have turned up on ebay in white metal, but so far I have only seen cap badges in gilding metal although a white metal version is mentioned in K&K.

So would they have worn a GM crown collar badge with the GM cap badge and does anyone have an example?

North Devon Hussars collar badges

Rob, be prepared for lots of North Devon Hussars collar badges appearing on ebay, some with red inserts (for officers) after this post has been on here a while.

The reason I asked is because ebay already has several WM crowns described in various ways as Devon Yeomanry.

If all the genuine cap badges I've seen so far are GM or Bronzed it seemed strange that the collars are WM?

If suddenly some genuine GM crowns of the right size, shape and lug position appear on ebay because I've asked this question then surely that's a good thing?

How can one tell the difference between these various collar badges and a Major's rank crown?

Despite Rob's warnings ebay hasn't been flooded with offering's, so I finally took the plunge and bought one that had been on there for some time.

It measures 27mm across 24mm high and is different in shape and size to all the rank badges I have.

Colin Churchill and Ray Westlake show an example in their 1986 collar badge book page 22 which may be a little comparatively taller?

Could it be a Police Fire or Ambulance rank badge?

I have now bought a "bronzed" and another white metal example.

The WM (24mm wide x 26mm high) is a better shape than my previous one but the bronzed one may be too big (28mm wide x 27mm high), could it be a Warrant Officers rank badge from a Rifle Regiment?

I have this white metal one, measuring 33mm X 33mm, I took it to be police, possibly army sleeve rank insignia.

Great photo Tim, thanks for sharing.

Notice how the jewels on the horizontal band protrude out, exactly like the badge on the far right Rob shows in post #7.

Thank you for the replies, so this could be a WW1 period set for the North Devon Hussars, the collar is the correct colour and shape but its hard to judge the size precisely.

I like those, a very nice set.
