Coldstream Guards Warrant Officers Beret Badge.

This badge, fitted to a beret by its two W/E lugs appears to have two small holes at the tip of the lowest ray of the star, does anyone know what the reason would be?
I can't see that they'd be holes for stitching.
Flaws in the die or mould, general wear on what appears to be a well rubbed badge?

Edit: now I've had another look they appear to be a couple of "dings".

I'll post more images but these are best I can do at the moment.

I've seen similar on a Chapska Plate, used for thread, just as an extra support, thread goes from inside the Chapska, out through one hole and back in through the other.

Thanks, I may have got it wrong in thinking the metal is pierced rather than dented or scratched. Better photos required.

It is perhaps not the best example, but, I think from the photographs, it is still quite a pleasing one.

Always find the reverse of this Star is the best way to assess the individual quality, Certainly when I was still in the Sergeants Mess the vast Majority of Warrant Officers wore Cap Stars which had been passed down through their Family with very few wearing recently issued examples.

Thanks, I'll check the back and post images when it arrives.

Thanks, better quality would be a bonus, it'll be interesting to see what markings if any are on the back.

I think that is certainly true of the Foot Guards in general, their used to be a certain Scots Guards OC who insisted his newly appointed subalterns wore vintage cap stars.

And yet more images - quality is better. Confirmed that there is, for some reason a small hole piercing the metal.
No manufacturer or other markings to the back of the star.

Leigh,

Have never seen a Capstar with a hole like that and I can think of no reason why it should be there. Difficult to say without it being in the hand as always but the rays of the Star appear a little flat to be and the garter buckle again looks flat. Have you taken off the backing plate yet?

Simon.

The garter buckle looks well rubbed. A possibility the star has lost a gilded central overlay? It looks as if it's been well polished, hence the lack of detail.
I wasn't going to take the backing plate off, but I will do.
The star looks as if it's been on the beret for a long time.

More photos of the back of the star, which has no markings.
It appears to have been the only badge that's been affixed to the beret and to have been there for a long time, the holes for the lugs are tight, as if the star had never been removed, impression of the star on the ribbon backing, the pattern of the ribbon's weave showing on the brass backing plate.
