WW1 Medal Engraving

Does anyone have any expertise in this area?

Did the font used in engraving ever vary?

Yes it did! There are quite a few different types.

Hello,

the first point is that British and commonwealth WW1 medals were not engraved!

They were however impressed by a machine.

The difference is significant when collecting medals.

Hi

I once saw an Australian trio and subsequently read his file. There was a curious notation that the Victory medal had been "impressed and issued at Australia House, London" and, yes, there WAS a difference in the font.

I'm still wondering if Australia House really did have a machine for this work or whether it should have read: "Impressed,[then] issued at Australia House"

If they were doing this work then it really must have been quite an empire...
