Royal Engineers in Goole, WW2

Hello folks,

I'm hoping someone may have knowledge, or can point me in direction of knowledge regarding the why's & wherefore's of the Royal Engineers being in Goole for WW2.

I have found a couple of obscure references to bridge building on the Ouse. Was this a training company - or just an area units chose to train at?

Many thanks.

I believe that Goole was where 72 Field Company RE trained in 1943 and early 1944 in preparation for their role in North West Europe. My father James Haddock certainly trained there. I believe that the combination of tidal currents and muddy banks made for challenging conditions similar to those that would be experienced on DDay and in the months afterwards.
