Hi
This badge came from an old frame of mainly Boer War vintage badges. Can anyone recognise it ? Thanks Mike |
Not sure Mike, but scroll looks more like PVRB than NRB
|
Thanks, Stephan.
Never could decipher these running script initials. Mike |
The crown is unusual.
|
IVRB I would say, maybe?
|
Crown looks European but if it comes from a Boer War collection, then possibly Dutch?
White metal I've always associated with "volunteers". Have you thought of entering various versions of the initials into....sigh....Google? |
That crown is referred to using various names such as Indian or Looped, but, it was commonly used on badges worn by both British Imperial and Colonial regiments and corps.

Could you show a photograph of the cipher itself please?

Hi Frank and others
Here is a closer pic of the cypher. Not great but legible. Thanks for the help. Mike |
I read PVRB .
Tony. |
So, perhaps 'P..... Volunteer Rifle Battalion?
|
Thank you, I would say that it is a pouch badge for the Natal Royal Rifles.

Found this Natal Royal Rifles pic.

I don't see NRR there, their badges were generally quite easy to see the similarity between the 'R's but the end letter on this is totally different to the R, still looks like ?VRB to me. IVRB; SVRB; JVRB or even PVRB.
Indian Volunteer RB? |
I have seen a Victorian Indian badge to an Railway Battalion. I think that it sported a similar crown as suggested by Frank. Maybe it is one of those
