Liverpool Scottish Balmoral
1 Attachment(s)
Hi folks
I've got this balmoral bonnet which purports to be from the Liverpool Scottish, it's nicely made, silk lined no dates or makers marks with a little bit of moth. My problem is I've never seen one before and have struggled to find photos of this being worn. My worry is that this might just be a civvy bonnet that someone has badged up. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of these things? Cheers Sean |
The badge is post 1937 but the hat is not the right colour for dark blue WW2 balmorals as shown in these pictures:

I can’t comment on the bonnet it’s self but as far as I was aware the Liverpool Scottish wore the Forbes tartan behind there cap badge (diagonal white lines etc) so not sure that parts correct with it ?? Gerard |

Here is the hat. It's not military. https://houseoflabhran.net/product/d...-ribbon-tails/ |
Liverpool Scottish (Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders)
It is WO Pattern 11246/1938, worn between 1938 to 1967 (though the first productions appeared in late 1938 or early '39 - I'll check). It was made by Gaunts and by an anonymous maker - your badge is made by Maker # 2 (not as nice as the Gaunt ones). It is known in silver, white metal, chromed WM and in AA. I think the Forbes tartan was only used behind the original 1908 Pattern 10th Bn KLR badge. The Cameron version was worn with a blue hackle. |
That's brilliant ......with what order of dress was it worn, I can imagine it being worn with barrack dress?
|
The badge was worn with all orders of dress but not on that hat.
|
Why on earth didn't it occur to me to say "paging Mr KLR" as well?

Can I just clarify......I know the badge is Liverpool Scottish, my question relates to the balmoral bonnet.

The head dress itself is certainly not Liverpool Scottish, I think if anything it is either a civilian or commonwealth item.
I have added some photo but will try and find some more over the next few days. P.B. |
Go to the link above and see the shop that sells them.
