can i please ask what this badge is?
i cant read the makers name on the rear.
this badge will be offered for trade at some stage

The 'missing' serpent makes me think this may not be RAF???

Whatever it is, it is not RAF (or other Commonwealth military). The insignia of the RAF Medical Branch is the "Caduceus" - the winged staff with "two" entwined serpents associated with Hermes (Mercury). Your item has a single snake. The other common medical insignia is the "Rod of Aesculapius" - a staff with a single snake, no wings. That's the "worm on a toothpick" used in the RAMC badge and likewise in most other Commonwealth army medical service badges.

I agree. It's probably not RAF. I was thinking USA however the crown throws me and brought me back to British or at least commonwealth?
All this inside a Q? With the date.
I'm completely stumped

Just a few observations to get the old grey matter working.

1. The caduceus implies something medical
2. The wing implies something aerial
3. The crown implies something related to well "The Crown"
4. The Q must have significance as well as the date of 1942(Possibly a founding date)
5. The brooch fixing on a badge usually relates to something a woman would use to attach to clothing. The style of brooch is typical of that seen badges produced in the 1960's and 1970's.

So maybe we could consider something like a nurses badge to something like Queensland Air Ambulance if such existed...
