WW1 WW2 Cap,Badges - Is there a difference ?
Hi,
Is there any difference between a WW1 RAF cap badge and a WW2 one or is it all the same badge upto the Queen's era Regards Nigel |
Since the introduction of the brass badge, in 1919, the design was unchanged until the 1950s when the Queens crown replaced the Tudor kings version. The WWI cap badges were of a completely different design, being more like the RN cap badges. In WWII there were versions made in plastic.

I think it is certainly worth noting that the ranker's brass cap badge was issued before the formal end of the war, from May 1919 to some, though not to all and that the "first" RAF embroidered cap badges, that are so often described as "1918 to 1919" were not suddenly replaced, they were worn by a great many well into the new decade.
