Interesting that the BWI troops were armed with Long LE rifles, of which there must have been a great number available around the Empire for second line and guard use. I posted a photo a while ago of Australian soldiers carrying LLE rifles, guarding German prisoners in WW1 and wearing GCC badges (German Concentration Camp), located in NSW.
I understand that the Naval Division at Gallipoli also had LLE rifles but have never been able to determine whether the KAR carried them in the East African campaign, which is a most interesting and often neglected part of WW1 military history.
