The Carabiniers has two loops N-S instead of the normal slider which is often a "Hairpin" with a hole at the base.

It may be a collar with the lugs.

Alan, it is the same size as the cap badge although I did wonder whether it's a collar. Maj. Edwards states in his book that the collar badge was the same as the cap badge but smaller.
