WW1 Yeomanry cap badges question

At the start of WW1 the TF procured their own badges as did the Yeomanry.

In 1916 only a few TF badge designs were then issued by the WD and sealed patterns produced. This number was reduced even further in late 1916 when the blank scroll badges were made redundant by the decision to grant the regular battlehonours: although KLR informs me that some of these TF blank-scroll design were later used by the Volunteer Bns (late VTC).

With this background, did any Yeomanry badges granted sealed patterns? As so many of the yeomanry regts were merged and/or converted into county service infantry bns (for example the F&F, Surrey, Scottish Horse, all spring to mind) and were issued the infantry badges, (or as cyclists or as composite companies in MGC units) does anyone know of s/p dates for yeomanry during WW1 or did it take until 1920 for them to be issued?

WW1 Yeo

Alan,

I believe the following yeomanry sealed patterns exist:

Lincs Yeo- 22.03.16.
LSH- 13.05.16.
Norfolk Yeo- 15.05.16.
Northants Yeo- 29.02.16.

NAM has boxes of sealed patterns in store but I don't think they have ever been catalogued.

Stephen.

Thank you for that source..

Having searched the NAM online catalogue they also show:

Cap badge, Lanarkshire Yeomanry, nd; sealed pattern, sealed 1 Jun 1916
Cap badge Staffordshire Yeomanry, nd; sealed pattern, sealed 18 Sep 1916

Thanks. I did look in K&K but in Vol 1 which did not show them in my version.

I would suggest yeomanry badges that come with known WW1 maker marks attributable to Board of Trade Labour Gazette contracts will have SP as they must’ve been an official order. This seems supported partially by a couple SPs already listed above - Norfolk Yeo (BP&Co) and Warwickshire (Armfield).

Off top of my head this would add:

South Irish Horse; Glasgow Yeo; East Riding of Yorkshire Yeo (Smith & Wright).

Herts Yeo; Duke of Lancaster’s Own; South Notts Hussars; Yorkshire Dragoons (F.E. Woodward) *probably can add the strange Middlesex ‘Imperial’ Yeomanry to this*

Cheshire Yeomanry; Glamorgan Yeo (Lambourne)
