Does anyone know whether this formation sign was ever worn as a circular badge, please? Although it has the dots for where to fold it, all examples which have been worn I have seen, are of it folded to a diamond shape. I have an example of each of printed and embroidered on felt versions in my collection, both of which are diamond shaped. I recently acquired the attached version, hence my question.
I would be interested to know, if anyone can help.

Can't find any photos/info of it being worn as a circular badge but did find a photo from IWM showing the diamond shape being worn in Korea in 19151.

Although on active service in Korea, Pte Dawson still wears the insignia of the UK-based Wessex Training Brigade Group.

Finding photos of any of these Brigade signs in use is not easy but as there is also an embroidered round version it seems likely that it was worn. Shaping a round printed one for sewing must have required considerable needlework skills.

I have the same example as Jon shows in his first image. I will look later and see whether there are signs that it's been sewn onto anything

The NAM has one from 1948(c) which shows how it was folded from round to square/diamond.

Many thanks for your informative comments gentlemen. I have to say I've never seen a round e on f version!
I shall put it in my collection as is, to show the original production format, irrespective of how it may have been worn!

I've seen these embroidered round variations and had always assumed they were modern repros as I've never seen one on any period uniform images to be round. The badges were printed in a roll and using a clock as a guide were folded and sewn 12 to 3, 3 to 6 to 9 and 9 to 12. The booklet 'A Short History of the Wessex Brugade' by the Brigade Colonel - Colonel N. Kendrick DSO - makes no mention of a round variation. No evidence to say they (round) are not right, but the Jury is still out.

Thanks for your comments Amy. Whilst I do have an embroidered on felt version, this is cut into a diamond shape, the same as the printed ones are folded into a diamond. I shall assume it was only worn in a diamond shape unless some comes up with photos that show any worn as a circle.
