RAAF WW2 Economy Cap Badge
 

I've been looking at a couple of websites and have noticed that they are listing a WW2 era RAAF economy cap badge (which appears to be a partially non-voided version of the standard cap badge).

Was such a badge ever issued or is it a modern reproduction / fake?

They were issued. I have both gilt and blackened versions which have various degrees of 'non-voided' ness.

A friend of mine, the late Ian Jenkins, who had worked with uniform and insignia at the AWM gave them the thumbs up, although it was the first gilt example he had seen.
