. . . a corporal of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps.
Having been an anonymous medical corporal identified generically in a photograph only as an afterthought, it is a pleasure to put a name to this soldier. The Australians did a much better job describing the same photo.

c February 1951

At the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) General Hospital in Kure, Japan, baskets of necessities and comforts for the casualties from Korea are taken to the wards every day, Corporal (Cpl) Bruce Eden of Marama, SA, Red Cross storekeeper makes sure that they are kept filled. Here he is assisting Australian Red Cross Superintendent Lorna Robinson, to fill a basket with goods to be taken to the patients. Cpl Eden is holding a box of 7 O’clock Razor Sets.

It seems the good Corporal Eden of the photograph returned to Australia with a much more significant "souvenir" of occupation duty in Japan.
