Royal Horse Guards - Red Backing?

Hi,

Just a quick question - did the Royal Horse Guards wear a red/scarlet backing or insert behind the cypher on their badge?

Cheers

Not to my knowledge but they have been added for display in a collection or 2.

Thank you Alan - that's exactly what got me wondering!

Not something that I have ever seen upon the beret or Service Dress cap during any period, but, you do encounter this sort of thing from time to time, I always assume done by a particular collector and former owner of the badge concerned.

I think that practice came about in the late 1980s, long after the Royal Horse Guards amalgamated with the Royal Dragoons (1st Dragoons) to form the Blues & Royals (1969).
