A little test for the Forum users. Here are two 1 CACR (Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment) Kangaroo cap badges. One is original, the other is one of the more common reproductions.
Which is which? What does one look for to id the repro?

Don't want to ruin Bill's fun

but can I hint? Letter shape, head shape, body shape, forearm position.

Michael Reintjes 30-08-10 03:43 PM

What do I win?..

I like that diablo Mike. What is the provenance on it?
Have you seen the nco's kangaroo (the collar badge) facing the other direction?

Michael Reintjes 30-08-10 06:21 PM

That Diablo came from a friend in Holland off of an almost destroyed British Engineer (AVRE) Battledress....apparently there was not much left of the BD when found in Holland but the badges were saved...

Michael Reintjes 30-08-10 06:25 PM

Honestly I.m not sure if I,ve seen one facing the other way...I may have but as I get older I photograph everything so I don't forget what I,ve seen...so I guess the answer is I don't know until I consult my photos..

Recce 01-09-10 01:22 PM

I'm no expert or Guru in these matters, and if BCBF depended on me
this site would be in a sorry state.:D

Whoever I saw Mr Michael got his archive notes out, which I have not read
to see if I could figure it out.

I went with the badge on the Right immediately on Gut feeling, Just by the
old colour. I Know reckless as I'll Considered on my part, and thats why
I'll never be a badge expert.

Well looks like I got lucky on my part:D

Despite the vendor's claims, this is an example of the repro badge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Orig-WW...wAAOSwCU1Y0wo~

Here is a recent badge that sold on ebay from Tanya Ursual, it is not the same as the original in your comparison. Note the face is different, the eye brow and nose is different. But I believe its an original badge.

I see some minor differences, but the badge is correct in the essential characteristics. Note the oval "O" vs the round "O" on the scroll.

David Tremain 13-05-17 04:15 PM

Just out of curiosity, what did Tanya's sell for? The price of that fake one on eBay was a gigantic rip off.
