Irish Lights weirdness...

Hello All,

This was found in an old sewing box. The strike has nice detail, but it doesn’t appear to have ever had lugs affixed. Any thoughts?

I can't comment on your specific badge. However, take care. This badge has/is being widely reproduced in a variety of metal finishes (white metal, black, and brass).

Dave.

Fantasy badge? No unit ID has ever been made.

Martin Marsh 638? Not quite the same. Note fault where the L touches the QVC.

Bosley’s recently sold a BM badge which I’d not seen before. It appears the overlay is held in place by a rivet.

I’ve read they were worn by Lighthouse keepers and staff as well as Petty officers and ratings on lighthouse tenders.

Ultimately a badge I’ve never seen anything definitive on and if ever genuine has been restruck from the original die in truly prodigious quantities. That the badge in the OP appears double struck from the reverse lettering does not bode well in my opinion.
