Interesting Pegasus opinions

Team I'm perplexed about this Pegasus and would like your opinion.

My friend has the Formation sign and I asked to do some tests.

The design is embroidered on wool , you can see the wool thread fibre on the front.
There is red stitching around the outside.
The spear shape appears to take the shape of a trident and the overall embroidery has good detail.
The reverse, at first I assumed it was polyester (translucent look) however he did a UV test and it does not glow or light up like a xmas tree. What glow you do see is a reflection of light-he forwarded a video.

The black backing is glued hard against the wool and he did a burn test on the backing, which turned into ashes meaning a non polyester fibre was used.

However on the reverse bobbin thread has these maroon, yellow speckles of thread showing?

Would welcome opinions.

cheers

Phill

I discussed this peggy with Frank and said I had one the same and it was discounted as wartime, rather it was post war belgian, here is a thread on it, saying it was 70's or 80's Belgian.

Thanks Jerry

My thoughts were that the Pegasus was either Post War British or Belgium and the speckled yellow, maroon threads on the reverse (with the Cambridge Blue outline) were too modern for it to be WWII/1950's era.

I just didn't know when the actual design was stopped being used by British Airborne Forces/Para,maybe some one can add if it was used intermittently during 1960-1980's period?

Which Belgium remained the only other known user of the design.

Also it was too well made with excellent detail for it to be a replica.

I am glad that you have ID as a 70's -80's Belgian.

Much appreciated.

Phill

Yes you did Jerry and it is always very much appreciated! I am glad it is now dated and labeled. And I hope that the forum members can file this Pegasus patch in case they come across one in the future. I bought another one yesterday which I will post on the forum once I get it. Thank you Jerry!

So just for the sake of clarification and my own education, the Belgian also produced and wore this design, or is it simply just a Belgian produced copy?

Until we find definitive prove, all we can say it is not WWII or up to 1950's British made.
With what was in Jerry's post has been ID as Belgium 1970's-80's and some say its not in private email.

Phill
