E. Lancs officer collar badge?
 

Dug this lovely enameled collar badge out of the bits and pieces box and had thought to be E. Lancashire; but is it? About an inch in diameter.

I dont think its Hampshire or East Lancs.
My initial thought was Loyal North Lancs.

Not the Loyals, which had a crown above the rose fpr mess dress, unless they wore a crownless version at some time?

I would imagine that you're already aware that "Churchill's" only shows the version with crown above but could there have been a version with rose and crown as seperate components?

The Hampshire's or Royal Hampshire's had an enamelled rose surrounded by a snug fitting circular gilt laurel wreath, I'm not familiar with the way they were constructed but could there be a version which had the wreath on a backing plate through which the lugs on the seperate rose passed?

Sorry, no answer, just more questions.

The rose is affixed to the wreath I take it, the wreath not being a seperate backing plate?

Sorry I can’t access the Hampshire badges to check. I was showing to compare the rose design - which is very different to the one in the original post.

I'd noticed the difference in design, thought there might be the possibility of manufacturers variation but yes, they are quite different.

Well, this is a mystery. I think returning to the E. Lancs is more likely for these. Although bullion embroidered roses were were normally prescribed for mess dress, enamel may have been worn at some time as well.

Spotted a lot described as "Collection Of Vintage WWII Era Pin Badges, Cap Badges And Pips" but on closer inspection turned out to be St.John Ambulance Brigade badges , collars , pins ........ plus 3 'roses' exactly the same as the one in post #1.

The seller has other S.J.A.B lots which include cloth badges/patches .......of roses !

Not to jump on the bandwagon but I did intend to post earlier asking why no-one had questioned if this was a non military item.

Whilst I don’t collect officers insignia or collar badges (so doubly out of my area) to me it doesn’t look particularly military and I think Mike Vee has in all likelihood cracked it.

I think that the badge may not be military was always a consideration, the possibility that it is, a starting point.
