Flocked titles
 

One method of making cloth titles was a technique called flocking. This is basically spraying the design or name on the base fabric. These titles were made for some units early in WW2, and the method was also used on the army cadet titles and some others after the war.
Attached is an example of a flocked WW2 title to the Pictou Highlanders. I know of a few others including Les Fusiliers Mont Royal, and the VIII Canadian Hussars. A few formation patches have been found made in the flocked method.
What flocked titles do others have? (Not including the army cadet issues.)

This is the first time I've heard the term 'Flocked' so I guess I have some learning to do on the methods of cloth badge manufacturing. The following are two Royal Canadian Corps of Signals examples from the Second World War, one for 3 Cdn Inf Div Sigs and one for 2 Cdn Corps Sigs. I own examples of the first and would love to acquire an example of the second. Perhaps these don't qualify as 'Flocked' but I leave that for you to determine.

Hello Joe, Excellent examples of flocked formation patches. Other flocked formation patches include Toronto Scots 2nd Div MG patches.

I have a winter slip-on title w/R.C.A.M.C. flocked onto it. instead of the standard embroidered lettering.

Interesting Bill. I have one to the KENT Regiment, same thing.

I would think the hardest one to find would be for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, worn by the Provosts, wouldn't you agree Bill?

There appear to be many more, and they seem to be Canadian manufactured. No units overseas wore these as far as has been researched so far.

My Canadian army course is like that. white letters on red felt. not first or second just Canadian Army Course. Ray

i have a 33 MED RCA title that is flocked... i`d never heard that term before, thanks for that. actually, the title is arched too, and perhaps even slightly blueish, unlike all the other artillary titles i have.

Good work Sean. Interesting title. I have never seen this one before.

Did a bit of digging on this unit. The 33 Med RCA is a post war regiment, HQ in Cobourg Ontario. Interesting that the title is sort of a cross between the WW2 pattern and the post war pattern. It is an arc, but uses the wartime style of designation.
