A question for our Cannucks...

Now that CANSOFCOM has its own beret badge has JTF-X done likewise with its raven crest?!

Hi Royal, the Canadian designation is JTF 2. At this point my understanding is that the JTF 2 does not have a distinctive cap badge.

Thanks Bill, but JTF-2 and JTF-X are different units with different roles.

JTF-X is not (as far as I know) part of CANSOFCOM, I believe it is part of CFINTCOM.

Hi Royal. I have had a reply that indicates JTF X personnel wear their previous / parent unit badge, and there is no distinctive JTF X badges, at this point in time.

Thanks Bill - i was wondering with the re-branding of CANSOFCOM and the fact that their UK equivalent have their own trade insignia and other unique bits and bobs whether they'd followed suit given how close the links between the two are.

Because of the abbreviations?

JTF = Joint Task Force
CANSOFCOM = Canadian Special Operations Command
CFINTCOM = Canadian Forces Intelligence Command
The X has various meanings within the intelligence world both on the dark and light sides. I presume in this case it comes from the X representing the staff role overseeing and deconflicting HUMINT (Human Intelligence) operations

that or its just a deliberate attempt to be mysterious....

A bit of an observation about the JTF abbreviation. In itself it is misleading. How big is a task force? Joint may have several meanings, especially now in Canada. And X... is the mystery..

Meaning of Joint
 

Hi Bill,

From my previous time, In Canada: Joint referred to more than one "branch" in an operation.
Joint Operations involved at least two of the following: the Cdn Army, The RCAF, RCN and SOF. (SOF has grown considerably since I retired......).
For example JTFG was Joint Task Force Games and was created for the Olympics in 2010. It included elements of all the CF.

Combined Operations referred to more than one Country.

Feel free to correct me if my memory is off.........

Paul, Isn't Combined Ops navy army air force, or some combination thereof.

JTF-X is here in Kingston. Their CO lives around the corner from me.

Does he have any badges to offer?? :D:D
