Hi,

I just acquired some Maroon Berets dating back to 1943... and a plastic cap badge.

Doing some research online I came across this PDF file.

Canadian War Museum's Airborne Beret Collection

Dating back to 2001, the CWM didn't have an original 1943 Airborne Beret...

I could spare one, anybody know if the museum still buys artifacts?

OK THE PICS ARE HERE!!!

I can't remember if it's "Knitting Mills" or "Hats Limited" !!!!!

Sorry, I am unable to answer your question regarding whether or not the CWM still buys artifacts.

However, I did find the PDF file linked very interesting.

According to the article, no maroon airborne berets were produced in Canada in 1944. However, I have one in my collection (Dorothea Hats Ltd. Toronto, 1944) that belonged to my wife's grandfather.

PS - Note the Perth Regiment badge - he served with the FSSF and was then assigned to the Perths after the FSSF disbanded. This was likely part of his coming home uniform. His wife (a war bride from Delfzijl) does not recall him wearing the maroon cap during the war, but we do have a picture of him wearing the cap on the date of his arrival back in Canada in early 1946.

Hi,
Do you have any interest in selling a beret?
Thanks

Hi,

Before trying to sell one out, I'll get in touch with the curator at the CWM.

I'm still in the "moving" process, even though July 1st is far gone now!

(July 1st is moving day here in Quebec)

I'll get some pics as soon as my home computer is installed and running.

Hello Patrick, Good to see you back on the Forum.
The berets sound very interesting. Looking forward to some images.

So basically, I have one beret that has seen action, the other much cleaner looking.

They don't smell awful either.

Plus the cap badge.
