QARANC Nurse's Cape
8 Attachment(s)
Hi All
I just picked up this cape, with loads of titles and formation signs, most of which I don't know. Not what I would normally go for but I couldn't pass up on it. I assume it is WWII vintage. Cheers, Alex |
Very nice, there are a few sought after items on there.

Hi buddy
Yes WW2 period , some nice patches there, you keeping it as it is offering patches off ?? All the best steve |
I'm not familiar with an all gray cape, as the QA(R) and the QA(T) wore a gray cape with a wide red border - the latter with a letter "T" in the front corners. So maybe some kind of civilian tippet?
If it's QARANC, which came into existence in 1949 then I would think it would be post WW2. During WW2 the QA's were the QAIMNS. I would be very interested to know about the all gray tippet as I always thought the QA' were very strict in their regulations and the red tippet was an item of pride. I agree, I see some patches I would like, but if they are original ot the tippet I would not remove them. Terry |
Terry,
This is not a nurses tippit but a cold weather long cape. These were worn by QAIMNS, QAIMNSR and TANS in grey wool and lined in red. I have handled this cape and it is WWII with all patches been WWII as well. Unfortunately it was a bit out of my pay scale so did not buy it at the time. Glad you managed to get it Alex. I understand the lady who sold it to the book shop got it from a friend who's mother served during the war. Steven |
This thread seems to show a similar cape, well badged.

Steven, Thanks for the info, and I figured there was more to be learned from it. Thank you for adding to my education. This is the first I've seen or even heard of this garment.

The Fort Garry Horse, 5 Canadian Armoured Division patch is rare.

Hi All
Thanks. I don't know much about the patches so will have to learn more. I want to keep it together so won't be removing them but I may move it on eventually. Cheers, Alex |

Thought that was Canadian but hadn't worked out what it was. Is there any reference I can use to id the other Canadian patches? Cheers, Alex |
Very nice indeed, Alex, certainly not without quite considerable value too, it's original owner must have encountered some interesting patients upon the wards!
Please do keep it as a single entity, no matter the offers which might come your way in the future. Quote:

More questions. I am trying to find out the name of the original owner from the seller but so from only have Edith somebody or other. Is the 1309 number on the label perhaps a service number?
Thanks, cheers, Alex |
Alex agreed to sell this to me and its not going to be ` cut up` I have turned down a very high bid off a badge dealer for this very reason .
