Support Services badge

Hi,

I would guess that this badge is for service personnel attached to one of the Royal Navy family support and welfare organisations, like the Royal Navy Family Support (RN FPS) team. Such organisations offer support for service personnel and their familys on a range of welfare issues.

Not sure if this is current issue or not as they have changed their designs over the years.

Hi

Been doing a bit of research on your behalf, albeit with limited success. The current Welfare badge is shown on the image below. By the way, that's a fine tat on her forearm - it looks like a Victorian Chief's badge.

It obviously dates from before 2000 as it's gold wire. And there is /4/80 after the serial number which suggests it was introduced in April 1980. In the late-80s the form of the serial number changed to the one used today - which also fits. I never came across it during my service and nor did any of my friends. Even a Chief Stores Accountant that was consulted states that he has never seen it or anything like it before. Perhaps it was withdrawn before use? That's not unheard of.

I'm fascinated by this badge so I won't give up on it yet!

Although I do not recognise the badge, It is for a CPO Higher rate of pay, since there is a crown above and star below. The higher rate of pay went out about the mid 70s

In the 70s Welfare Workers were mostly WRNS ratings and and wore a badge with a circle and WW in the centre.
