AN EXTRA FEW EYES

7 Attachment(s)
Hi all

I don't do this very often, as being on the Forum these years I've learnt a lot about what's good and bad. But these three I'm 50/50 on.

The Devonshire one has the sign of gold braze on the lugs and is made of a thick material.

The Norfolk Econ also has me wondering. Has what looks like a nice tapered slider, and some signs of gold braze. Same with the Leicestershire TF. Looks OK, but would appreciate some extra eye's for a once over.

Cheers all.

Regards

Simon.

Simon,
I be reasonably happy with all but the awful looking tiger! Not one I would even consider to be good in the slightest!

Thanks Andy, just what I was looking for. What are the pointers on the Leics then I should look out for in the future.

Regards

Simon.

Simon,
It could be just the image but the slider does not look right and the features of the cat itself! There is definitely an EI version of this badge, but I don't think yours is one?

Yeah. I know what you mean. The slider was what made me post it with doubt. It has virtually no braze to the connection point. Also, I don't like the sanding marks of the flat edge to the rear. Never seen that before.

I think as you say I'll keep the other two and return the Leic's.

Thanks Andy, as always really appreciate your opinion.

Regards, and have a good weekend.

Simon.

Simon,
I'll post some images of a good one later today!

You have a good weekend too! ;)

Hi Simon

Not sure about the Devonshire, it looks pretty much the same as mine and someone suggested that was a copy.

Hi Rob, as you can see ; it got the all clear this time. The one difference, is the one I just posted above is much crisper in front detail than I think yours.

I have another also, but the lugs have been snipped. It too has the traces of gold coloured braze.. I'll post a pic when I put it up in sale album today. Maybe have a taker for it. That was OK's too I think back when I picked it up.

Regards

Simon.

Hi Simon

Here is another from the same dies?

And possibly this one as well?

Its possible that the lugged white metal Devonshire Regiment badge is a 1st Volunteer Battalion badge and the 5th TF Battalion badges were fitted with a vertical shank?

As to whether these are genuine, I suspect not.

This is the reverse of my very dirty white metal badge. I prefer this one as it doe not have the footed lugs and the reverse detail is precise. The first one shown has poor definition.

Simon,
it would not be for the first time and I seriously doubt the last either! If it were mine I'd be keeping it! It is your badge and you are the one who's able to handle it, from the images it ticks enough boxes for me.

Andy

I intend to keep it Andy, as I got it for a song.
I agree also, overall it ticks enough boxes.
I am though sending back the Leics and Norfolk.

Thanks all for the input

Regards
Simon

Simon,
there's nothing wrong with the Norfolk badge . I cannot lay my hands on my 4/5 & 6th Leics EI, but a triangular tuft of grass just forward of the hind legs it what you should look for!!

Simon,
Norfolk Regt EI badges are quite hard to come by and if you have paid less than £35-45 you've done well! I have so far only identified 2 differing die patterns, of which yours is one!

Here are the two I've only managed to ID so far;

Andy
