Hi friends

Opinions please on this wing, is it WWII era or pre 53.

Also if you can educate me on this type of wing.

It looks like a perfectly normal issue (unpadded) wing of the period 1939 - 1953. It has been altered (by the addition of poppers) for wearing on Khaki dress so it can easily be removed for the Dhobi (laundry).

Just from the photographs. I would say that is an original flat pre 1953 wing, of a particular type that was certainly being both issued and bought during the war, to and by, a great many RAF pilots, I should be happy with it, if I were you.

Much appreciated Dave Frank.

Would this type wing been worn on a specific uniform ie shirt or BD jacket, note that t has the "poppers" as Dave mentioned also was it common to have them used in all theaters or a particular theatre?

cheers

These would have been worn predominately on KD shirts and Bush Jackets (tropical clothing) as worn in Africa, Middle East and Far east, where the item of clothing needed laundering regularly and the insignia so attached would have been damaged in the process.

Nice original wing with the snaps added for warm weather wear. Nice badge.
