Mystery Highland Light Infantry Patches for Identification

If there are any HLI cloth specialists out there, these went on Ebay recently (not to me)for a big price and I'm really not sure what they are.

Look to be definitely locally made which raises the possibility of the 2nd Battalion which served in Italy . Anyone recognise them or know what they are?

Best

Whilst I have never seen anything like them, they don't look foreign made to me with that type of embroidery. The bobbin thread looks more like British make.

Interesting - thanks CB. I just thought the relative roughness of the letters indicated a local manufacture. You're probably right though - they've had a tough life and it may be simply wear and tear...

HLI "slip-on" titles

I bought one from Geoff Newman which had been printed on the reverse of a REME slip-on title.

Quite why this was done I can only think there was a shortage of blank "slip-on" titles, maybe these were produced as a stop-gap.

As you can see the title looks quite normal from the front.

I have always felt very good about items I get from Geoff. He's a first class gentleman in my book.

Rob your centrepiece H.L.I. cap badge with the Brass ring with Honours within, has this fitting? and ought it not to be Silver plated? as a Bandsmans badge?

I have similar and can see the badge will pull against it to hold in place on a board but would think some fittings for everyday use? Otherwise it would sliide down and rotate!

Cheers billy

Pipers badge

Billy, it's a pipers cloak badge I think, it has a very stout pin and clasp for fixing.
