No idea but the star suggests that it is not British whilst the heraldry s a family crest to me so a real mismatch.

Perhaps a private works police/fire service badge?

Family chauffeur?

To be exact:

School ACF badges wear their Regular Army badges.

It is not a CCF cap badge that I know of.

Pre 1940's cadet corps sometimes had their own badge and these are not well recorded but again this is not one I recognise.

The only other option is a VTC? They are not recorded in any detail so finding it will be a challenge.

Possibly a school in the colonies?

Just to follow up, another clue.

The star and central device within are identical to this Barbados Cadet Corps recently listed on Geoff’s site.

So a Barbados link.

I don’t think it’s broken Paul, no signs of ever having a scroll. Very neat edges to the star.

The Cadet Corps badge is a 6 pointed star. The badge in post #1 above is a 5 pointed star.

Also it’s on a slider, so far all the other Barbados Cadet badges I’ve found had loops.

Possibly connected to "The Lodge School" , the crest is the same as 'The Lodge School Old Scholars Association' (see photo).

There 'could' be a cadet connection ?

Quote:

The Barbados Cadet Corps is one of the oldest youth organisations in Barbados and the region. It was formed in 1904 with the establishment of a cadet company at The Lodge School by schoolmaster Captain Radcliffe Hall. Soon after, Cadet Companies were formed at Harrison College and Combermere School. In 1912, these three school companies became affiliated with the Barbados Volunteer Force.
Wiki page about the school has a section "Influence on the development of the Cadet Corps in Barbados" :

Quote:

This shortcoming was rectified in late 1903 when the then Headmaster of The Lodge, Mr. O. Emptage considered that the psychological moment had arrived and he approached the science master, an officer at the time with the Barbados Volunteer Force, with the suggestion to develop, either a regular Cadet Company or at least a Drill Squad.

In the first term of 1904 the attempt proved so successful that it was decided that a Cadet Company, with proper military establishment be formed. Thanks to the efforts of the Governor, Sir Fedrick Hudgson, V.D, a gift of 25 drill purpose carbines was presented. These were later supplemented with defunct CLBs.

That first Company consisted of 43 Cadets, one Company Sergeant Major, four Corporals, four Lance Corporals, four Front Rank cadets.

Note : The shield 'may' have been loosely based on the shield in old City of Bridgetown crest ?

Thanks Mike. Great research, really interesting.

Professor Charles Thomas had a couple Barbados badges inc. Cadets Corps on a West Indies Colonials card. None have a five pointed star and the similar badge with the arms he dates to pre 1939.

Not saying he got it right all the time but may be of relevance.

I was wondering if the badge could have been used by the original Lodge School cadets between 1904 and 1912 ?

As the BVF used the six pointed star with scroll it is 'possible' that their style of badge was adopted on affiliation.
