Saw a small lot of what I thought were the 2021 "Royal British Legion 100 years" badges , there were 2 of them but also some "RBL 100 LAS 2021" ones !

The lot arrived this morning and it is excellent pin that I thought I had missed .

The pins came directly from an RBL branch in Wales . :)

NB. Although PoppyShop doesn't have a lot of this year's pins available they are already selling 2022 Dated Silver/Gold Tone Poppy Lapel Pins.

Last year the dated Poppy Pins came out in May due to the RBL Centenary , I wonder what reason they will give for PoppyShop selling 2022 dated pins in January !

I know Branches benefitted from selling dated pins during Poppy Week but if they are readily available for 10 months who is going to be buying them in November .

Earlist I have seen one!
£5 plus £3.99 is a bit steep for some people! I will keep an eye on the Poppy Appeal portal...

No new Rugby Poppy Pins for 6 Nations as yet.

Are the set from 2021 not for the 6 Nations ?

Sorry Mike , I misunderstood your post ! :o

I've heard that some English branches even had problems getting White pins .

.

Mike_2817 31-01-22 09:28 PM

Some Appeals got no 100th anniversary pins and little or no dated pins...

Aylsford Order Portal as you today have no Dated 2022 pins or Rugby Pins to order.

mike_vee 01-02-22 02:29 PM

Just double checked and discovered I ordered my 2021 poppy pin from PoppyShop on 20th February but assumed they were doing that because of the Centenary in May . This year just seems ridiculously early and not good for PAO's/Branches.

Fakes !

A seller I have previously posted about is now getting ridiculous !

He is offering a fake set of 2006/2007/2008 poppy pins , he claims to have "12 kilo,s of different ones i purchased from a liquidation sale.!" which means he's had batches made (probably in China). The fact he has included a tape measure , which shows they are the wrong size , indicates he knows nothing about these pins.

.

mike_vee 02-02-22 11:09 AM

I have informed RBL and "Help for Heroes" (10% of the sale of this item will benefit Help for Heroes) about this listing and also reported it to eBay !

I picked up this badge in 2019 (there is also a silver tone version) but had no idea if it was an official badge , a branch item or a commericial/souvenir pin.

Yesterday I spotted one on eBay (sold very quickly !) , it came with a card/booklet(?) which shows it was an official badge.

I still don't know the who or why but wonder if it was given to donors like the "Poppy Supporter" badge today ?

Finally got the badge that has been #1 on my wanted list for a few years , "The Battle of Cambrai" ! :D
Managed to do a swap for a couple of my 'spares' , so that is one set complete , just need the hexagonal "Ypres" gift shop one to finish the other set.

Congrats there Mike! I know how it feels to get a much, much desired item, and even as other bits come along, that win still glows on.

Thanks Terry , I can get hold of original 1921 British Legion badges but can have real difficulty getting ones produced less than 5 years ago !

Now , as soon as a new 'set' is issued I snap them up as they may end up "out of stock" in a couple of weeks ..... and not be reissued !

Same seller , exact same set of pins but this time a slightly different "story" and a starting price of £49.00 !

Worth noting : "RELISTED DUE TO NON PAYING BIDDER"

It appears that eBay and RBL are not willing/prepared to take any action against these listings !

Mike,

Until recently I really only collected war time, but when I got into more current items I figured items would be easier to find. Not to be, the newer items as you mention seem harder to come by than war time ones.

I guess we have to consider the hunt as part of the fun.

Terry

I was expecting a package with some old RBL documents/paper work , it arrived today and included some unexpected but most appreciated items (Thanks Mike).

As Terry has previously stated , the kindness and generosity of forum members is not often mentioned but is one of the really nice aspects of this forum.

You are more than welcome Mike, you have helped me with more than a few pins yourself.
Some of last years pins I have not seen anywhere else.

Found photos of two new pins that will be available soon (?) , not sure if they will only go to PAO's/Branches or if PoppyShop will have them.

Was told last week (no pictures) that they would be available at Annual RBL Conference in May. Hope to see them on the PA Order Portal along with 2022 Pin before that...

After supply problems with some of last year's pins (am sending a white rugby ball to someone whose English branch didn't get any) I wonder if the new ones will turn up on PoppyShop (or eBay !) before they reach some of the Branches !

Will keep an eye out on the various sites and let you know when they first appear.

Another set of fakes on eBay , I'm sure it's the same seller using an alternate identity (one that has sold fakes before) . Same "selling pattern" using photos from genuine listings to show what a great deal they are offering . The also donate 10% to charity (not RBL) to make them look trust worthy/honest but use the same red pouches that are so common with fakers.

Set includes 2007/2009/2010 pins plus 2011/2012/2013 with leaf on wrong side ....... and you can get the lot for £24.50 !

It is pointless reporting the seller to eBay/RBL as I have done this before and no action is taken.

Photo of the "Falklands Conflict" pin is on the Poppy Shop website but the pin itself is not (yet !) on sale , I thought it was going to be a PAO/Branch item but maybe not ?

Next , did anyone see PoppyScotland special "100" paper poppies last year ? A couple of articles from September 2021 stated they would be on sale during 2021 Poppy Appeal Week.

Anyone heard about any special commemorative items/pins for the Centenary of The Poppy Factory which opened in May 1922 ?

Have just ordered Falklands Conflict pin from PoppyShop (£3.99 ) , I know these will be going out to PAO's/Branches but after the supply problems last year I thought I'd snap up this one now ! ;)

Less than 1 hour after it appeared it is no longer showing on PoppyShop page ?

I wish they would get their act together , a lot of people are not RBL Branch members and the only place they can buy genuine badges/pins is from the PoppyShop site.

Mike,
I could not agree more. Having seen your post that your had been successful in purchasing the Falklands Pin I went immediately to the PoppyShop website. Searched the site inside out but there was a distinct lack of commemorative pins for any anniversary. I gave up looking. I wonder how many others did the same.
Cheers
James

I know at least six people who went to the site after I had ordered mine , only to find the pin was no longer there !

One problem is that not every PAO/Branch will order the Falklands pin or they may not get enough , that is what happened with some of last year's "specials" .

The next one I have to keep an eye out for is the "Queen's Platinum Jubilee" pin .

There is a different Falklands Pin for sale on Poppy Shop, and I think they listed the circular one in error.

I am watching the Poppy Appeal Order Portal on a daily basis for the Round example and the "Queen's Platinum Jubilee" pin as well as the 2020 Pin in bags of 50. I already have orders for all 3 types.

One pin I have difficulty every year is the 'London Poppy Day' pin given to collectors only on the day. If anyone has any spare I would be interested.

Mike_2817 02-03-22 10:45 AM

Quick Note - The Round example is re-listed again as of a minute ago.

I'm the same , the LPD pins don't appear that often.

PS. Am still waiting on the other pins I have for you arriving , the sender only posts items when he has time/opportunity (once a week/fortnight).
