HAC White metal grenade cap badge

Are there any pointers for identifying a period HAC White metal grenade cap badge?

Alan,

All the ones I see appear modern/current issue.

I wonder if the WM version was actually worn pre 1950/60's?

regards

I think that they were adopted post war but the metal ones have been widely faked.

This is mine, the best (IMO) I’d seen from an unconvincing bunch.

Hi Alan,

As far as I know, and if still worn, the A/A versions of the grenade version of this badge are still current issue as per the 1960's.

Currently and again, as far as I know, there is no authorised 'New Metal' grenade version of the badge for the Honourable Artillery Company although the traditional Crest and Motto beret design for Other Ranks is officially authorised and issued in 'New Metal'.

Regards,

Chris

The only HAC grenade I have in white metal, it appears to have some age to it.
Gaylor stated the W/M version was adopted in 1954, Kipling & King doesn't show the plain W/M version only silver anodised aluminium (stating the W/M with brass "HAC" was sealed 9th March 1954, silver anod. with gold anod. "HAC" 28th November 1952).

All I got:

Honourable Artillery Company (Infantry Division)

1955 January, C 6380, introduction of;
Badge Cap, WO/Sgts gm/wm catalogue number CB 1876, Pattern number 16188. Vocabulary 12th July 1954, sealed 9th November 1954.

Other Ranks, wm Catalogue number CB 1877, Pattern number 16189, smaller than the old badge CB 1300, pattern 9022, existing stocks to be dipped to match CB 1877.

Interesting, "existing stocks to be dipped to match CB 1877" - I wonder how long it would take for the W/M to wear off the "HAC" (well, and the ridges of the flames I suppose).

A yellow metal badge (including slider), dipped, yellow metal showing through on high points.

Does this mean that the grenade would be reduced in size to a similar extent as some other badges of the 1950's, eg DCLI, SLI, Queens West Surreys?
I've never seen a white metal HAC grenade of the reduced size.

As the a/a version is the full size as well it would seem that it was never introduced in reduced size. Possibly because the grenade was worn in the peaked cap whilst the beret badge was different in design and smaller?

Nice (but standby for at least one post pointing out you've not polished that badge for a while).
Has the cap a black lining and oilskin type sweatband?
Is the badge made of white metal or is it yellow metal that's been dipped?
