Wiltshre Regiment Officers cap badge
3 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
have just received this badge and have a couple of questions. I thought at first that the dark areas were just tarnishing, but on closer inspection I think it may have been blackened. Were officers badges to this regiment blackened ? Also, the badge is stamped ' silver '. Does this usually mean it is silver plated or solid silver ? No hallmarks present... Many thanks in advance, Mark |
The blacking is tarnish. I don't like badges that are just stamped silver, imo it is a modern stamping by fakers where there isn't enough silver in it to be 'Sterling'.
I'm going to say it is a copy, unfortunately. Neil. |
I have the same concerns over badges just stamped silver. I expect David- 49lassiepen will give an informed view. I think the void size over Wiltshire may also count against it. Regards, Paul.

Many thanks for your replies. Must say I am very surprised as it came from a well respected dealer.

Looks very similar to a duff one Rod sold recently that was listed next to a fake 6th V.B. Mancs.

Hello Mark. ORs Great War badges are my interest- I know the void size should be larger on the ORs badge- and there have been posts about silver marked badges. I'm sure you will get more informed comment. I can only say I have doubts about your badge being good. Cheers, Paul.
