A contrast in blues and collar badges plus two nice qualification badges. I assume the star on the lower right arm is for distance judging?

The star is fascinating
I have no reference for it as an RA qualification, it was an unpaid distinction for the musketry skill set

Another use was the four or five year efficiency award for VF/TF,

and there were many others including driver MT, cadet and auxiliaries. But this one puzzles me.

Any idea of date please? I am having difficulty with this one.

Bumping this fascinating one up please.

Hey Grumpy, the twisted shoulder cords and bright looking universal pattern collar badges in the first photo might suggest Volunteers pre-1908, in which the efficiency award explanation would be correct.

The second photo is post 1928.

Thank you: yes, a possibility but he is not wearing the SNCO Proficiency Star, 4 points, over his ranking. Unusual to find SNCO VF gunners without that badge. But your idea is best bet for the moment.
My other problem is that the "feel" is more modern. These things are sent to try us!
I am not strong on Militia RA .... any possibility? The Militia played around with stars in a half-hearted way.

Uniforms aren’t my thing in the slightest but I completely get what you mean with the ‘feel’ being more modern. From the look of the uniform material and pockets plus his hairstyle it feels maybe as late as interwar period to me.

Does the signature/name/writing, bottom right, on the first picture assist at all?

I.E. name or similar?

Regards

I agree that it is interwar. Note the collar badges worn at an angle to the point of the collar, which was the fashion for most all regiments at that time.

Thanks to all. So, if inter-war, what did the star signify?
I really should know the answer to this one.
