All white metal , measures approx. 95 x 70 mm, threaded studs to rear.

Hello,

Its a generic Pouch Belt Plate worn by Rifle Volunteers and some VB's all of whom would have worn a different device and possibly number to the centre.

In my opinion the WM rose had been added much later to an early silver plated backing plate and isnt original to the badge.

I have this one in blackend brass I have been told probably police, yours is a nice looking badge. Still have not had a definaltev answer to whom it was worn by.

The white metal Rose may indicate Yorkshire background to your badge.

Stephen

Stephen,

I believe yours is the same generic pattern as the first post and an other ranks/NCO's PBP of the Rifle Volunteers 1859 to c. 1880's. Again its missing its centre.

Simon
Thank you I have been pondering on the centre device and have not found anything small enough to fit through the tiny fixture hole as yet.

The rose (on the first one)looks suspiciously like the 30mmx30mm WW2 49th West Riding Div arm badge. has it got the brass circle to the rear with makers mark?

QVC badge

Thank you for your help, I think you are right about the rose, have looked at the back and no markings on it but the hole through the backing plate is a bit jagged so as you say not original.

Here's a couple of very similar badges to the Cheshire Rifle Volunteers. As Simon commented it's a common badge with a variety of different centres.

Its here:-

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Military-...MAAOSwcwVa7I8K

So the ebay dealer Josordoni is our user haventaclue.

A very apt user name because looking at the dross he is selling he certainly has not got a clue about military badges!!
