Hello,

Wondering if anyone would know what the centre would be for this half.

They appear to have been short lived, 78th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers (Manchester) Formed 2 Nov 1860, absorbed by 33rd 1862.

Thanks for any help.

No knowledge of the subject, but could it be that the male portion of the locket was retained & worn after 1862, the female being discarded?

Hello,

As a collector of all things relating to the Manchester Regiment and its predecessors, I have a couple of badges to the 78th LRVC, namely a Scottish Company officers Busby plume holder and an Officers Pouch Belt plate.

The former has the arms of the City of Manchester in the centre and the latter the three lions of Lancaster.

However I have never seen a WBC and can only guess, based on others of the period that it may be a Lancashire rose in the centre, but thats a guess.

regards

Thanks for the input, its always possible the 78th swapped the centre for the that of the 33rd if they were different?, although the reason the 78th was absorbed by the 33rd was financial, so I suspect the 78th just carried on wearing their uniforms at least for a while.

Will have to try and find a suitable centre.

Pure speculation, it would not have 78 on the wbc twice, perhaps the male part just had a bugle horn and rose as in their button.

P.B.
