Such an obvious fake which is available on ebay for £6
Sorry Geoff but £85 is so ridiculous.

Feel free to use this as a guide

This shocker http://www.mindenmilitaria.com/viewp...h=57758&phqu=2 of a Cheshire 1916 all GM issue was listed today on Minden. Incorrectly on loops (with feet!), the classic repro die flaws.

Such an obvious fake for £35. A real shame.

And this for £70. It has the dot's instead of lines and lugs.

Bosley’s Schoolboy Howler

The pièce de résistance this weekend however appears to be in lot 101 at the next Bosley’s auction.

Whilst the picture is terrible I’m certain this is a bog standard Essex Regiment fake being sold by the badge world’s leading auction house... the mind really boggles.

It's quite worrying that such obvious fakes are being passed off as genuine. Lugged all brass economy badges indeed! Who but a novice would believe this to be genuine?

Dealers ask a premium price that is generally 50-100% of the auction price for the guarantee of being original yet the proliferation of obvious copies is very worrying that there is a lack of integrity that is not just confined to ebay!

Just seen this monstrosity:

http://www.mindenmilitaria.com/viewp...h=57759&phqu=2

For the record there was not any orders from the ACD for an all brass version of the SLI badge. It really is beyond doubt. Just to confirm that it's wrong is the fact that the badge on size is the reduced size which was not introduced until long after WW1 was over.

These days, I think that a careful examination of a potential purchase is always the way to go, notwithstanding whosoever the seller might be.

I 100% agree!

Buy the item, not the seller or the story.

Yes, there was a thread not long ago regarding dealers selling fakes. I have always said that it is ultimately up to the buyer to determine a badge, as one cannot always trust that a particular seller knows everything. All dealers have fakes at times, whether they are aware of it or not.
