High prices
 

Has anybody else been following the a/a badges for sale by Ceejay 2 of the items went double what i placed on them - around £100 .0 I think he obtained some good prices

Yes David. The herts yeo is one that gets easily damaged. The number ive seen without antlers is huge.Plus its reaonably scarce too.

£100 for the plain Stag badge is an absolute BARGAIN! The Garter Strap example went cheaply too IMHO!

£100 for an a/a badge worn by cadets is not my idea of a bargain! Each to their own but that seems a very good price. The LSH beret badge was going for over £60 when I last looked. Mine cost me £6: now that was a bargain!

Now that Chris Marsh's book has exposed the fakes and commercially produced a/a badges, I did wonder whether a/a will become less attractive to collectors; I mean attractive is a sense of desire to hold rather than aesthetic beauty of course!

However as these prices show people are still willing to pay a lot of money for them. Is this because they have the book and know which are the fakes or becasue they have not got the book and don't recognise the forgeries? What did the fake F&F Yeo bagde go for?

F & F yeo sold for £34.00
Robbi-dead spartan had the Stag Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Yeo badge this year if I remember correctly this sold for £55.00

Andy If you would not let yours go for less than £250.00 then a fair price would be £125-130

I'm not sure if your reply is intended to be sarcastic?

Just because a dealer has sold one for a low price does not mean that is what they are worth and to be honest I don't think Robbie appreciated what he had and has sold two recently, unfortunately he also has a Brass one, which are not any way near as valuable! I am not trying to be confrontational here, just stating a fact that these badges in good condition are scarce and if you can pick one up for a reasonable price it is well worth it! In some cases people do not realise how scarce they are!

Clearly it was bought by someone who is a keen a/a collector but not keen enough to own a copy of Chris' book or they would know that it was a fake.

There was a ROYAL GUERNSEY MILITIA a/a cadet badge went for just over £100 recently on e bay :eek:

The H&BY badge was over-priced. It is rare but not worth more than something like a hallmarked silver officer's cap badge.

FYI this badge was worn by the regiment, and not just by the ACF.

12.04.62. Regt approved of samples.
18.05.62. Order of 1000 anodised cap badges supplied.
20.05.62. Cap badge first worn for ceremony to grant Regt Freedom of St. Albans.
25.11.66. WO32/20561. 286 Regt RA badge listed as a Territorial Regt item costing 1s.0d each.
01.04.67. Regt disbanded. Successor, 201 (H&BY) Medium Bty to wear RA badges.

Then we'll have to agree to disagree. Thanks also for providing the information on quantities and the period of wear by the TA unit. I think finding a HM Silver badge to this particular battery would also be quite a find? I doubt if the officers who ever wore this pattern badge ever exceeded the teens and those who were ever slashed out on a HM badge and went for the SP version (two versions shown below)?

I should have been clearer as I meant 'as well as by cadets' ie it was not just one regt wearing the badge so there are more of them around than just one regt's worth.

One of the badges Robbie had sold for £110,or in the region of. I remember looking at it,the other went straight away so didnt see the price.
Gerry the Guernsey was Alderney lol,problem with this unit is that its suspended at present.It was only reformed in the 80's by Col Walter. Original badges were bi metal then all gold ano,then gold and silver ano. An all silver ano exists but this is a manufacturers error and hasnt ever been issued. At present ,its believe that all stores are being held in the mainland UK until such time as the unit is reactivated. This info was passed on to me by a Mr Wood in the Channel Islands .
