Glider Pilot Regiment association badge
 

I came across this badge recently and I am curious if the number on the reverse is the date when the badge was issued? Any additional information will be greatly appreciated.

That it appears to be a date is probably coincidental. They were most likely issued to members of the O.C.A. in numerical order.

I'd agree , a lot of associaton badges have the members number on them .

I've seen a British Legion cap badge numbered 1971 , which coincidently was the year they became the Royal British Legion ! Only problem is that I also have a British Legion one numberd 2040. ;)

Certainly the Old Comrades of the Commando Association were issued with numbered badges recorded by 'Association Number' rather than date - no doubt an attempt to stop imposters etc wearing the badge.

I found the badge below belonged to Egon Heldberg, of the Jewish faith - who served with No.4 Commando.

The S.A.S. O.C.A. badges were certainly issued with consecutive numbers.

We are in agreement - For the original Commando Association I believe the process was to allocate Association numbers chronologically - before Association badges were made - When Association badges were issued (not sure what date but probably post war) they were stamped with the number previously allocated to the person wishing to buy a badge.

I finally located my example of this badge. It is 3059. Anyone care to give me a name to go with it? I will pass it on if anyone is keen so PM me but I would love to know whose badge it was.

Might be way off, but the numbers on the badge in the initial post look to be more home done than by what I've normally seen on numbered lapel badges. Almost like it was done with a drill and a small bit???
