125th Napier Rifles

Hi. Just thought I would show a set of buttons that came with a KD jacket (in the pocket) that I recently acquired from the estate sale of Maj. Gen. T.W.(Dagger) Rees. They are jet black and only 2 are marked Grove & Sons.
From his time with 125th Napier Rifles. He was with them from 1916 through to 1918 (and presumably till 1922 when they changed names). I am not sure the KD tunic is from that time as it shows it was badged up as a Maj. Gen. at some point, but I dont know enough about ww1 KD tunics to be certain. The tunic needs 10 buttons and there are 10 buttons!?
Richard.

Very nice. I imagine that the original tunic no longer exists, as given the heat, the almost daily washing required in a hot climate, and the battering it would have taken from the dhobi wallah, it had a relatively short life.

I was saddened to see that the collection was sold off at a local auction and even sadder to have missed it. I have a huge respect for Rees and his role in the capture of Mandalay. It was a shame that it couldn't have been kept together and gone to the National Army Museum, not that they would have wanted it in the current climate.

The maps he used were unsold, and I wonder what happened to them, particularly as I collect wartime maps of Burma.
